History of the Association:
A few years ago a small group of dealers and associated businessmen recognised the need for the formation of a single entity to lobby against both State and Federal regulations which were being introduced to the firearms industry without any discussion with or input from the industry itself. Admittedly there were many sporting associations to champion the rights of the shooter, but until the formation of the NSW Firearms Dealers Association the rights of the professional businessman in the firearms industry were largely ignored by both the shooting organisations and the governments. From this humble concept has evolved the NSW FDA which has grown in strength over the years to become the only body protecting the rights of all its members at a state level, and, through its affiliation with the National Dealers Association federally as well – remembering the NSW Association has a director on the board of the National Body.
What we do:
Provide Information to our membership on relevant issues affecting our businesses.
· Lobby all political parties for assistance regarding changes to legislation.
· Liaise with various state and federal government bodies on behalf of our members
· Network with other state’s dealers association.
It must be remembered however, the association itself is not a single source ok knowledge and it is strongly recommended that each member study the legislation relative to their particular business environment and on the “MEMBERS ONLY” section of this website we have included links which will provide this information.
Structure:
Members are drawn the from the firearms industry and the official year runs from AGM to AGM with yearly subscriptions being required before each AGM. To be eligible to be nominated as an office bearer or vote at the AGM one must be a financial member.
The members of the committee are all volunteers and donate much time and energy to causes affecting all members – over the last couple of years these have included;
· Workcover Regulations and Licenses
· Cat Certificate Renewals
· Changes to handgun certification limits
· Australia Post blanket ban on importation and exportation of firearms
· National Management Systems
· Liaising with Attorney General’s department on various issues.
· Lobbying to ensure the carriage of firearms in the mail
· Discussion with NSW FAR on various legislative issues misinterpreted by Registry Staff
· Submissions to various state and federal government bodies on various topics
